Our Story & Impact
Over the years, we have implemented significant improvements, reducing health risks associated with hazardous waste and providing comprehensive medical and hazardous waste management training to health workers across all health facilities in Rwanda. In collaboration with the Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA), we have decreased incidents of exposure to medical sharps, enhanced facility cleanliness, promoted recycling efforts, reduced pollution, and raised awareness about sustainable waste practices.
With trusted partners and a shared vision, we are leading the charge toward a greener future. In the past three years, we have collected and treated approximately 3 million kilograms of hazardous waste, safeguarding both the environment and public health. In 2023 alone, more than 2,000 tons of plastic waste were recycled into flexible materials, pavers, and bricks. Depot Kalisimbi Ltd has also produced 500 tons of compost from organic waste. Since assuming management of the Kigali landfill in 2020, Depot Kalisimbi Ltd Ltd has addressed long-standing concerns and improved conditions, putting an end to ongoing media reports of complaints from nearby residents
We take pride in our projects that showcase innovation and a commitment to sustainability:
Since taking over Kigali landfill management in 2020, we have significantly improved operations, reducing pollution and ensuring safety for the surrounding communities. Our efforts have successfully addressed long standing complaints about flies, leachate, and unpleasant odors, which were frequently reported by neighboring residents.
